Current BOPARC Foundation Projects

100% of every gift is invested in the park you love. Your gift can be designated to fund strategic projects or as a general donation. Below are some examples of projects being evaluated for funding by The BOPARC Foundation.

LOWER MARILLA PARK

Lower Marilla Park is in need of a strategic redesign that will reflect the diversity of recreational experiences currently available, as well as appropriately utilize the space to enhance opportunities for our community. This is a large-scale project that will need to undergo extensive design, have open public input, and multiple funding sources. BOPARC has started this process with the current conceptual upgrades to both the Marilla Pool and Marilla Skate Park. The BOPARC Foundation will be instrumental in the fundraising efforts for a portion of the improvements to Lower Marilla Park.

MARILLA SKATE PARK

Morgantown's original Skate Park, located in Marilla Park, has been with the BOPARC system since 2004. The park has become a popular destination for multiple wheel-based activities, including BMX and skateboarding. The area is also frequented by families seeking level, open spaces where kids can learn to bicycle. Given the age programmatic diversity of the space, BOPARC hopes to upgrade the visitor experience as well as accommodate for shared use and modernization overall.

NEW MARILLA POOL

Marilla Pool has served the Morgantown, WV community for over 60 years as a hub of summer activities, including swim lessons, water fitness classes, community events, municipal swimming opportunities for the public and as a rental space for pool parties and other functions. The pool has a zero-grade entry, a substantial lawn area and two water slides. In 2021, BOPARC began preparations for significant upgrades to this aquatic space, undertaking a detailed architectural and engineering design process, public input and a business plan for future operations. The upgrades to Marilla Pool are proposed as part of a construction bond utilizing a portion of BOPARC's municipal sales tax funds. Preliminary design plans include a splash pad area, aquatic activity spaces, water slides, traditional pool services and a lazy river component.

LOWER MARILLA TENNIS COURT CONCEPTUAL

A key component to Lower Marilla Park is the Beverly Shumaker Tennis Court area. The six courts in Marilla Park today have been there since 1975 and have been instrumental in providing generations of kids and adults with the opportunity to enjoy the sport in our municipal park. We now hope to transform this much-loved space into an upgraded, state-of-the-art tennis facility that can continue to serve our community for years to come.

Five parks in the BOPARC system (Krepps, Marilla, White, Whitemoore, Dorsey’s Knob) contain established trails. These spaces provide opportunities for hikers, cyclists, dog-walkers, and nature lovers to experience the great outdoors in every season. BOPARC is committed to improving these spaces, as many require providing attention to erosion control, shared use constraints, re-routes, upgrades, and general maintenance.
