The Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners of Morgantown (BOPARC) was formed in 1981 and has served as the recreational arm for the City of Morgantown for over 40 years. BOPARC’s mission is to provide a quality system of parks, trails, facilities, and programs that enhance the Greater Morgantown Community and the well-being of its residents and visitors.

BOPARC manages both indoor and outdoor venues throughout the City of Morgantown. Through the dedication of both past and present administrators, board members, and community supporters, BOPARC has grown to become one of the largest municipal park systems in West Virginia.

Philanthropy has always played an important role in the growth of the system. Through philanthropic efforts, BOPARC was successful in securing the area now known as Dorsey’s Knob Park, as well as Jack Roberts Community Park. Several years ago, BOPARC began to explore the possibility of a BOPARC Foundation to serve as a partner in securing funding to meet the growing needs of our community where recreation is concerned. The BOPARC Foundation was formed in July of 2020 and the IRS 501(c)3 designation was granted in 2021.
